Santa List

You know that awkward moment when you have a present from a relative you don't see often or a well-meaning family friend and before you've even made the first rip you're mentally preparing your Oscar-winning performance of the 'oh-wow-this-is-JUST-what-I-wanted-however-did-you-know!' reaction?

Well, I don't get those moments.
I'm not a hard person to buy for, or, for that matter, a difficult person to please, and on top of that I have a secret weapon. I may be 21 years old, but yes, I have a Santa List! A wonderful list that lives permanently on my laptop/phone/noteboard throughout the year so when those moments of 'Ooh I'd quite like that...' crop up on me I can pop it down and when Christmas comes around...voila!...my Santa List.

Some of you might think this is a tad boring - no surprises! You'd be thinking wrong. I don't mind surprises and I do still get plenty of them, but the point is - I really want these presents, so there's no way I can be disappointed when I actually get them. And whether there's 5 or 35 DVDs on my list (my record for number of DVDs in a single Christmas currently stands at 34) my parents wrap each one up individually, so you just don't know what you're gonna unwrap next! I'm also very forgetful.

The surprise presents I get are mainly from those who know me well enough to venture into the 'whoopeee-this-is-just-what-I-wanted' danger-zone with comfort - and I'm blessed with family and friends who seem to get it spot on - especially my mum. She gets me things I want that I didn't even know I wanted until she's got them for me!

Result - no Oscar-winning performances from me on Christmas Day!

No amateur dramatics, just a Santa List and some very-me-surprises :) So get that Great-Aunt-Gertrude and family-friend-Uncle-Frank under control next year - you're never too old for a Santa List!
